Guru Room

Attending this show, was a whim at 8:45 on a Saturday night, but it paid off. I was able to shoot up there by quarter of ten and catch the last half of The Usual Madness before Children of the Dying Sun went on. It was their 10th show, and they dressed up in dress shirts and ties as with their first show.

For this show, they had a new song and requested that I record that (video after the cut), and it rocked. A very groovy song, and certainly one of their best. Henry managed to break his guitar three songs in, but despite the technical difficulties, Prostration steps in with a spare and the show continued albeit with a lack of Lady Gaga.

The final act of the night was Prostration, whom I also went to see. My wife’s band will be playing with them in May, so I wanted to check them out. Having only heard them via myspace, it was a pleasant surprise to hear them live. There seems to be a shortage of conservative bands, and I’m sure “Keep the Change” will be a suitable anthem for Fall 2010.

The Guru Room is fast become my favorite place to shoot. The colored lighting lends itself to adequate illumination and a stylized effect. I was able to get great shutter speeds for some nice crisp shots. The sound on the video wasn’t terribly great, but I think my position didn’t help. I may look into some separate audio capturing in the future since that seems to be a real pitfall in the productions.
