PPD 2010

While I usually check out the PPD event each year, my wife’s guitarist’s other band was playing, so I took the opportunity to get some video and photos. Sound was once again on the camera, but since it was outdoors, it didn’t clip as much.

Guru Room

With past experiences of having terrible sound, I started using the Zoom H4n to record the audio tracks at the concert. This gives me the benefit of cleaner audio, but also is off the camera, so the sound doesn’t shift. I’m also able to get the entire set as an audio file, which is an added bonus.

I was also checking out one of Obsidian Tongue’s shows, and they killed it. I think the video became one of my better edits in the end.

Guru Room

I wanted to ensure that I made the first show for Betrayed by Prophecy, since I had met Marc at a few past shows. The addition of Terror Rising, Children of the Dying Sun, and From Here It’s War helped too. The sounds was completely unusable, and this marked the last time I would use the internal mic on my camera for sound.

O’Briens

O’Briens is typically one the more difficult spots to photograph. The lighting consists of one main hot bulb, and the sound is always distorted on the videos. Once more, I was reminded that I needed a flash and a proper microphone. But that didn’t stop me from seeing some great bands.

Sammy’s Patio

Headed out to Sammy’s Patio for the first time for my 30th birthday. Great bands, okay lighting, terrible sound and the horror of driving in Boston. But it was a good time over all. It did teach me that I needed a flash and a better microphone.

Parasitic Extirpation Tour Kickoff

•July 11, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Concerts are best when you show up and end up knowing some people there. The kickoff show for Parasitic Extirpation’s tour featured an all-star lineup of some of the more noteworthy bands in the area. Once again, I thought I was late but ended up being really early. Suppose it’s better than missing a band.

Aside from Parasitic Extirpation’s tour kickoff, it was also Composted’s first show with vocalist Evan, bassist Tim, and the second show with the new guitarist Jimmy. This of course only leaves two original members, but the show must go on. First up was Scaphism debuting some new material and getting the crowd worked up. It didn’t take long for the place to start filling with people.

The Temple

The Temple is a new spot just outside of Boston where recording studio meets live performances. I headed up to see Untombed as well as Abnormality after missing them a few weeks back. After finally finding the place (it’s not marked in any way, but it’s one street over from Midway), I entered a very impressive and clean studio complete with a professional stage, lighting, and enclosed rooms for recording the events.
